Dalton Carnival 2008

Saturday the 14th of June was time for the annual Dalton Carnival. The morning was overcast with the odd light shower and even up to the start the grey clouds were looming. After a cold windy start the sun broke through and blue skies followed, much to the appreciation of all in and watching the parade. The parade was awash with colour and vibrancy. The dance troupes were neatly spaced with the festival bands with the excellent Clarence Float at the rear to create one of the best parades I have had the pleasure of watching in Dalton. The parade walked along the pre designated route and finished at Dalton United Football ground where the afternoon of dance competition between the local dance groups took place. A thank you does need to go out to David Atkinson car sales that once again provided free water for the walkers on route during the parade. As a personal view I now feel for a family day out Dalton carnival is now way ahead of Ulverston who since losing the dance groups have lost the family atmosphere that the carnivals strive to achieve.
