With the sun shinning down a last minute decision to go to the Copper Dog for lunch was made and after a quick phone call to confirm it was indeed open and had a table available, off we went. The Copper Dog is situated in a village called Leece, approximately four miles from Barrow. We were greeted at the bar by a friendly smiling girl who served our drinks and then showed us to the table. Due to the car and to much ale the day before only soft drinks were ordered but there were three fine looking real ales to temp the thirsty traveller The pub in recent years has had a large conservatory built on and this where we were seated, looking out at beautiful views of the country side and across towards Morecambe bay.

Our meals of tuna from the specials board and a lamb henry from the menu were ordered and what great meals they were. The lamb was cooked to perfection and the tuna moist and tasty. Each meal came with a selection of red cabbage mixed with sultanas, broccoli and carrots and our choice of new potatoes (the chips were very tempting but after the indulgencies of the weekend we thought we should try and be good). Service was first class and the bill came to £18 including two drinks. There is a cheaper and lighter lunch time menu food available and looking around it all looked good. For the views alone from the windows the pub is worth a visit and one to add to the “must visit list” for the summer excursions out.
