Now it has been a few years since I was last in the Royal Oak at Sparkbridge, so following a recommendation of a work colleague it was decided to pay it a visit one Sunday lunch. Just a few miles past Greenodd it a pleasant run in the car and easy to get to. We arrived just after twelve and there were already a dozen cars in the car park. At the bar we were greeted with a friendly smile and a good selection of real ale much to my delight. We ordered the drinks and were shown to our seats by a young pleasant and efficient girl. We put the drinks on a tab which made it easier and the menu and special board made it a hard choice to decide what we were to eat that day. Prices were very reasonable ranging from around the £8 mark. The sound of the fish and chips in homemade beer batter was too tempting. The food was excellent as was the service. By now the pub had filled up and that must be a recommendation in its self. The pub is large and the rooms split so wherever you sit you feel cosy and not crowded. Booking is advisable as it would be a shame to travel and not get a seat but with the size of the place I think you would get a seat if you were prepared to wait. Two meals, two pints, and a soft drink came to £24. At the back of the pub is a large beer garden for those sunny days. I will definitely be going back in the not too distant future.
